Basics & Selection

What thickness of gym flooring do I need?
For home gyms with light to moderate use, 10mm to 15mm rubber flooring is sufficient. For commercial gyms with cardio equipment, 15mm to 25mm is recommended. For functional training zones, 25mm to 40mm. For heavy free-weight and CrossFit zones with dropped weights, 40mm to 50mm rubber flooring delivers proper shock absorption and protects subfloors.
What is the difference between rubber tiles and rubber rolls?
Tiles are modular squares — easier to install, replace, and reconfigure. Best for home gyms and small commercial spaces. Rolls provide a continuous seamless surface — premium aesthetic, better for large commercial facilities where uniform finish matters.
What is the best gym flooring for deadlifts?
For deadlift platforms and Olympic lifting zones, 40mm to 50mm rubber tiles are the standard. They absorb impact from dropped weights, protect the subfloor, and reduce noise. Many serious lifters use a 50mm platform under the lift area with 25mm surrounding flooring.
Is TGF flooring suitable for Indian climate?
Yes. All TGF products are sourced and tested specifically for Indian conditions — high humidity, temperature swings, and intensive daily use. This is one reason our clients return repeatedly: products that survive Indian gym conditions long-term.
Do you supply flooring for outdoor gyms?
Yes. We supply UV-stable rubber tiles and outdoor-rated turf grass suitable for rooftop gyms, semi-outdoor zones, and outdoor functional training areas. The product must be specifically rated for outdoor use — standard indoor rubber will degrade.
How long does gym flooring last?
Quality rubber gym flooring lasts 10–15+ years in commercial use with proper maintenance. Sports vinyl typically lasts 7–10 years. Gym turf 5–8 years depending on use intensity. Home gym flooring often lasts longer due to lighter use.
Can I put a treadmill on rubber gym flooring?
Yes. 6–10mm rubber flooring under treadmills dampens vibration, reduces noise transfer to neighbors below, and protects the subfloor from sustained equipment weight. For heavy commercial treadmills, 10–15mm rubber tiles or rolls work best. This is one of the most common home-gym setups in apartments and society gyms across India.
Will gym rubber flooring protect my existing tiles?
Yes. 10mm or thicker rubber flooring absorbs the impact from dropped weights and prevents existing ceramic/vitrified tile cracking underneath. For weights over 20kg dropped from height, 25mm+ rubber is recommended for full protection. This is a key reason home gym owners install rubber over existing tile floors instead of replacing them.
Is rubber gym flooring noise-reducing for apartment gyms?
Yes. Quality rubber gym flooring at 15–25mm thickness significantly reduces impact noise transferred to floors below — a critical consideration for apartment, society, and condo gyms. For maximum noise reduction in residential settings, layer 25mm rubber tiles over a 10mm acoustic underlay. Neighbours in flats below should hear minimal impact from dropped dumbbells or treadmill running.
Is EVA foam flooring good for a home gym?
EVA foam is suitable only for yoga, cardio, and bodyweight training. It cannot handle dropped weights — even light dumbbells will leave permanent marks. For any home gym with weights, use 10mm+ rubber tiles instead. EVA's only advantage is lower price and softer feel underfoot, but it's a false economy if you ever plan to add weight training.

Installation & Maintenance

Can I install gym flooring myself?
Interlocking rubber tiles are DIY-friendly for home installations — they simply lock together puzzle-style on a level subfloor. Rubber rolls, sports vinyl, and conventional adhered tiles should be installed professionally for best results. TGF provides installation guidance and can recommend trusted installers in major cities.
Do gym rubber tiles need adhesive?
Interlocking tiles do not need adhesive for most home and small commercial use — they lock together puzzle-style and stay in place by their own weight. Conventional non-interlocking tiles, and tiles in heavy-traffic commercial zones, should be adhered with rubber-specific adhesive for long-term stability.
Can rubber gym flooring be installed over existing tiles or concrete?
Yes. Rubber flooring installs over concrete, ceramic tile, vinyl, and most level subfloors. The subfloor must be clean, dry, level (within 3mm over 3 metres), and structurally sound. Major cracks or unevenness should be addressed before installation.
Do you provide installation services?
TGF supplies materials and provides installation guidance. For commercial projects, we can recommend trusted, experienced installation contractors in major cities. We don't directly perform installation — this lets us focus on what we do best: sourcing and supplying quality flooring.
How do I clean and maintain gym rubber flooring?
Daily: dry sweep or vacuum to remove dust. Weekly: damp mop with pH-neutral cleaner diluted in water. Avoid harsh solvents, acidic cleaners, bleach, or oil-based products which degrade rubber over time. For commercial gyms, schedule a monthly deep clean with rubber-safe cleaner.
Are TGF gym tiles smell-free?
All quality rubber flooring has a mild initial odor that dissipates within 7–14 days of installation. We supply products with low-VOC formulations. For odor-sensitive environments (clinics, schools, residential gyms in shared buildings), we recommend EPDM-heavy or virgin rubber options which have minimal odor.

Product Details

What is EPDM in rubber flooring?
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a colored synthetic rubber granule mixed into gym flooring for aesthetics and improved properties. Higher EPDM content (20–40%) provides better UV resistance, more color variety, and lower odor — preferred for premium installations. Lower EPDM (5–10%) is more economical with the classic black-with-fleck appearance.
What is the difference between SBR and EPDM gym flooring?
SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) is recycled black rubber — cost-effective and the base of most gym flooring in India. EPDM is virgin colored synthetic rubber granules added for aesthetics, UV stability, and lower odor. Most quality gym tiles combine an SBR base with 10–40% EPDM speckle on top. Pure EPDM tiles are premium-priced and used for color-critical, low-odor environments like hotels and high-end studios.
Can I get custom colors and sizes?
Yes. Standard colors (black, grey, blue, red flecks) are stocked. Custom EPDM color blends, solid colors, and custom tile sizes are available with 15–25 day lead times and minimum order quantities. Brand-matched colors for gym chains are possible — share your brand colors and we'll match.
Is sports vinyl flooring slippery when wet?
Quality sports vinyl is rated R10 or R11 for slip resistance, which is appropriate for typical fitness environments. Wet zones near showers, pools, or steam rooms require specifically rated wet-area vinyl (R11/R12). Always specify the slip-resistance rating for your intended use.
